This policy explains how Website Hosts UK manages fair resource usage across hosting services.
Designed to protect performance, stability and reliability for all customers.
This Fair Usage Policy is designed to ensure that all Website Hosts UK customers receive a stable, reliable and consistent hosting experience.
Some services use shared infrastructure, which means server resources such as CPU, memory, storage, disk I/O, bandwidth and mail delivery capacity are distributed between multiple users. Fair usage rules help prevent one account from negatively affecting others.
By using Website Hosts UK services, customers agree to use resources responsibly and in line with normal website, email, hosting and server operation.
Website Hosts UK services are intended for normal website hosting, business email, domain-related services, WordPress hosting, business hosting, reseller hosting, VPS hosting, VDS hosting and related online use.
Customers must not use services in a way that causes excessive load, instability, reduced performance, abuse complaints or negative impact to other customers, infrastructure, network reputation or service availability.
Fair usage does not mean unlimited unrestricted usage. It means customers may use the resources included with their service for legitimate, reasonable and expected purposes.
Bandwidth refers to the amount of data transferred to and from your hosting account, website, email service or server.
| Service type | Typical monthly bandwidth allowance |
|---|---|
| Standard Hosting | 100 GB monthly bandwidth |
| Business Hosting | 250 GB monthly bandwidth |
| VPS / VDS Hosting | As specified on the selected server plan |
Bandwidth usage applies to origin server traffic. Customers may optionally use a third-party CDN to reduce origin load; however, CDN use does not exempt accounts from fair usage monitoring.
Accounts that regularly exceed plan allowances may be asked to optimise traffic, reduce unnecessary usage, upgrade to a more suitable plan or move to a better-matched service.
Hosting accounts must not consume excessive CPU, memory, disk I/O, database resources, concurrent processes or background tasks in a way that affects server performance or other users.
Examples of high resource usage may include poorly optimised WordPress plugins, heavy ecommerce scripts, inefficient database queries, high bot traffic, repeated cron jobs, large imports, bulk processing scripts or sustained background tasks.
Where resource usage is consistently above expected levels for the selected service, Website Hosts UK may request optimisation, apply temporary restrictions or recommend moving to cloud hosting, VPS hosting or VDS hosting.
Storage included with hosting plans is intended for active website files, emails, databases, application files and content directly related to the service.
Shared hosting must not be used primarily as external backup storage, personal cloud storage, file archiving, bulk media storage, software mirrors, large download repositories or unrelated file distribution unless explicitly permitted.
Accounts using storage in a way that does not match normal hosting use may be asked to remove files, upgrade to a suitable plan or move to a more appropriate service.
Email hosting is intended for normal personal, business and transactional communication. It must not be used for spam, unsolicited bulk email, abusive campaigns, phishing, deceptive messages or mailing list activity that generates complaints.
Customers are responsible for keeping email accounts, passwords, scripts and contact forms secure. Compromised mailboxes or scripts sending unwanted email may be restricted or suspended to protect mail reputation and service reliability.
Bulk marketing, newsletters and large mailing campaigns should be sent through a dedicated email marketing platform rather than standard hosting mailboxes.
Caching can improve website speed and reduce server load. Customers are encouraged to use suitable caching, image optimisation and performance best practices, especially for WordPress, WooCommerce and dynamic websites.
Poorly optimised websites, uncached dynamic content, excessive plugins, large images, heavy database queries or aggressive bot traffic can increase resource usage significantly.
Website Hosts UK may recommend performance improvements where an account is using more resources than expected.
Customers may use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to improve performance and reduce origin server traffic. A CDN can help serve static assets, reduce bandwidth usage and improve loading times for visitors in different locations.
CDN services must be configured and managed by the customer unless a managed service has been specifically agreed.
CDN use does not permit abuse, excessive origin requests, prohibited content or activity that negatively affects infrastructure, networks or other users.
VPS and VDS services provide greater resource control than shared hosting. Customers using root-access servers are responsible for managing, securing and monitoring their server environment unless a managed service has been agreed.
VPS and VDS resources must still be used fairly and lawfully. Servers must not be used for spam, malware, abusive automation, DDoS activity, unauthorised scanning, proxy abuse, phishing, illegal content or activity that damages network reputation.
If a VPS or VDS service causes network abuse, excessive load, security incidents or complaints, Website Hosts UK may restrict, suspend or request corrective action.
If an account consistently uses resources beyond normal behaviour for its plan, Website Hosts UK may take action to protect service stability.
Actions may include:
Emergency action may be taken without prior notice if usage threatens service stability, security, infrastructure or other customers.
Usage may be monitored through hosting control panels, server metrics, bandwidth counters, mail logs, abuse reports and infrastructure monitoring systems.
Warning notifications may be issued when usage approaches plan limits. Accounts that reach allocated limits may be restricted, suspended until the next billing cycle or upgraded where applicable.
Website Hosts UK aims to work with customers wherever possible, but reserves the right to restrict or suspend services where fair usage, stability, security or abuse concerns require immediate action.
Website Hosts UK reserves the right to update this Fair Usage Policy at any time to reflect changes in infrastructure, services, pricing, resource limits or operational requirements.
Continued use of services after policy updates constitutes acceptance of the most recent version.
This policy exists to keep hosting services stable, reliable and fair for all Website Hosts UK customers.
Normal website, email and server use is welcome. Excessive, abusive or unsuitable usage may require optimisation, upgrade, restriction or suspension depending on the impact.
